Green Building Certification Programs
Certifying your next home or project ensures proven building science techniques and quality products were used for better performance, a lower cost of ownership. Homebuyers will have added confidence they’re making a smart investment in a quality home certified under one of the following programs:
To earn the ENERGY STAR, a home must meet guidelines for energy efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. These homes are at least 15% more energy efficient than homes built to the 2004 International Residential Code, and include additional energy saving features that typically make them 20-30% more efficient than standard homes. The ENERGY STAR program focuses heavily on effective insulation, high performance windows, tight construction and ducts, and efficient heating and cooling equipment.

Energy Star Builder
The North Carolina HealthyBuilt Home Program is a statewide green builder program for residential building professionals. Orientation training, a requirement for participation in the program, is an introduction to the benefits and building guidelines of certification. Benefits of a HealthyBuilt home include lower operating costs, lasting value, and increased comfort building with health in mind.
In partnership with local builders, Mountain Lumber sponsored the first HealthyBuilt Home projects in both Watauga and Avery County.
The NAHB National Green Building Certification assures homeowners and the community that projects meet the requirements of either the NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines or National Green Building Standard.

Builders and industry professionals may earn the Certified Green Professional designation by completing training and education in green building practices.
Mountain Lumber has four NAHB Certified Green Professionals on staff to assist in navigation of this program.

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is an organization committed to expanding sustainable building practices. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System encourages global adoption of green building and development practices. The LEED Rating System offers certification for homes, commercial buildings, schools, neighborhoods, and existing buildings.
LEED Accredited Professionals (AP) are green building professionals with advanced knowledge and expertise in green building practices and the LEED Rating System.
Mountain Lumber has five LEED Accredited Professionals on staff, partnering with you to achieve green building results.
The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the USGBC have partnered to develop ReGreen, the nation’s first sustainable residential remodeling guidelines. The ReGreen Program is used by designers, construction professionals, and homeowners as best practice guidelines for green residential improvement projects. Our staff includes an ASID Professional Member, here to help find solutions for greening your residential improvement projects.
