Our History
Mountain Lumber is a contractor-oriented yard designed to meet the needs of the custom home builder. We take pride in our commitment to provide quality materials and recognize that our customers and our employees are our greatest assets. We are constantly striving to find the best materials and to keep abreast of all the changes in the lumber and building industry. |
1988: We began February 1, 1988 in a small, 400 square feet showroom with a warehouse of approximately 900 square feet. |
1990: A storage shed is built on the new property, purchased in 1989 on the east side of Highway 105. After Pop Simmons retired in 1991, he almost single-handedly completed the second storage shed. |
1994: Work began on the new showroom building in the spring. |
1996: In late January, Mountain Lumber Company moved to its new location. |
1996: DeWalt Tool Day began in 1996; it has since become an annual tradition. |
2001: Construction began on a three-level addition to the existing showroom... |
2001: ...and was completed in October 2001, providing extra office and meeting space. |
2003: In July 2003 we opened a new showroom for specialty hardware, plumbing, and millwork. |
2003: In November 2003 we started door shop operations. |
2004: Several trees fell into the river at the rear of our property because of the remants of Hurricane Ivan. Mackie Isaacs and Jerry Greene used a chain saw and trackhoe to pull out this large tree. |
2006:
We purchased Vaughn Woodworking, a custom millwork shop just down the road in
Foscoe enabling us to create those beautiful custom-made doors, cabinets, and
other millwork products that Henry makes so beautifully. |
2007:
In June, we opened a Banner Elk showroom and pick-up location in order to
assist our Avery-county customers. |
