Mountain Lumber reflects the influence of local people working within their own community to help the High Country build and progress. We demonstrate how the mountain work ethic combined with visionary leadership has seen the company and its services grow to keep pace with the increasing demands of residential and commercial construction. As a pioneer in helping define the best in mountain building design and products, the company continues to stay ahead of the curve by positioning Mountain Lumber as the High Country leader in green and sustainable building.

We first opened our doors on February 1, 1988 in a small, 400 square foot showroom with a 900 square foot warehouse. After acquiring property on the east side of highway 105 a year later, we completed two additional storage sheds to expand our product lines and selection.

Four years later we began work on a new showroom which opened in 1996 and, soon after, inaugurated our first DeWalt Tool Day promotion; an annual trade customer appreciation event that continues today.

The new millennium saw a three-level addition to our showroom plus additional offices followed by new specialty hardware and millwork showroom, along with a new door shop operation. And, by 2007, we had further expanded our services deeper into Avery County with a new showroom and pick-up location in Banner Elk.

Mountain Lumber began as a resource for the building trades over 20 years ago and continues to take the lead in new products, new green building technologies and superior customer support services. We have become the leading information and educational resource for green and sustainable building practices for both trade and consumer customers. Our future is both exciting and expansive as we move the High Country toward greater accomplishments in greener, better living.
